The OCHAR Government Affairs Committee provides updates on important local issues and meets with local leaders, attends planning and town hall meetings and plans events/projects for members to make a difference in our communities.

2023 Highlights

• Monthly voice promoting REALTOR's value on WCHL's Chatham County Round Up
• Weekly Raleigh Round Up radio show with legislators
• Market reports sent to house districts, county commissioners, local and state leaders (Renee Price, Graig Myer, Natalie Murdock, Valerie Foushee, etc)
• Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO, Chapel Hill's "Missing Middle) letter of support mailed to Town of Chapel Hill - letter supported allowing for greater housing choice and affordability options in the Town of Chapel Hill
• GAC Member John Foley elected to Pittsboro Town Council
• Local consumer campaign for voter registration (email and social media)
• Local municipalities candidate surveys sent and received, 5 out of the 6 candidates supported by OCHAR won
• Met with Congresswomen Valerie Foushee (represents NC's 4th District) and discussed workforce and affordable housing, policies, grants, transportation, and supporting infrastructure for growth
• GAC Outreach meeting with NC State Senator Natalie Murdock, Cary City Council Member Sarika Bansal, Pittsboro Commissioner John Foley, and Chatham Co Commissioner Karen Howard
• GAC Letter presented to Town of Pittsboro supporting infrastructure for growth- recognized and thanked by NC Realtors Sr. Vice President of External Affairs (Mark Zimmerman)
