Membership

What do I need to join OCHAR?
  • To join OCHAR, you will need the following:
    • License to practice real estate in NC
    • Proof that you are affiliated with a real estate firm that is a member of OCHAR
    • An Add/Change form from your Broker in Charge adding you to their company roster
    • If you are a member of another Association you will need a "Letter of Good Standing" stating that your National and State (if applicable) dues are paid and current.
    • Once you have all of this, please fill out and submit an application, found on the JOIN OCHAR page.
What are the requirements of joining OCHAR?
  • Shall at the time of application be associated either as an employee or as an independent contractor with a Designated REALTOR® Member of the Association or a Designated REALTOR® Member of another Association (if a secondary member).
  • Must maintain a current, valid real estate broker's license or be licensed or certified by an appropriate state regulatory agency to engage in the appraisal of real property.
  • Agrees to complete a course of instruction covering the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Association, the Bylaws of the State Association, and the Constitution and Bylaws and Code of Ethics of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION.
  • Shall pass such reasonable and nondiscriminatory written examination.
  • Shall agree that if elected to membership, he/she will abide by such Constitution, Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Code of Ethics.
What are the different membership types?
  • REALTOR®
    • REALTOR®/Broker: Has a North Carolina Real Estate License
    • REALTOR®/Broker in Charge: Has a North Carolina Broker in Charge Real Estate License.  This member is a REALTOR® who is in charge of or owns a real estate company.
    • Property Management REALTOR or Broker in Charge: Works in an office that is licensed to handle vacation/short/long-term, and seasonal home and/or office rentals.
    • REALTOR® Appraiser: A REALTOR® or Broker in Charge in an office that is licensed to do home appraisals.
  • Secondary REALTOR® Member: A REALTOR® or Broker in Charge whose primary membership is with another Association—either in North Carolina or in another state.
  • Business Partner/ Affiliate –  A local business, usually involved in real estate transactions that supports the Association and helps keep member dues LOW.
What are the requirements to join OCHAR as a Secondary Member?
  • Shall at the time of application be associated either as an employee or as an independent contractor with a Designated REALTOR® Member of OCHAR and another Association.
  • Must maintain a current, valid real estate broker's license or be licensed or certified by an appropriate state regulatory agency to engage in the appraisal of real property.
  • Shall agree that if elected to membership, he/she will abide by such Constitution, Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Code of Ethics.
  • Provide a “Letter of Good Standing” from your previous association indicating that you have no outstanding balances with local/state/national association dues.

How do I update my information in GrowthZone and Paragon?

Easy!  If you have any change of information, please login to your account on the Info Hub and make the applicable changes.  The changes will automatically upload to Paragon and SentriLock.

I have a question about my NC Real Estate License. Who do I contact?

Any questions regarding your real estate license MUST be directed to the NORTH CAROLINA REAL ESTATE COMMISSION.  OCHAR staff may only answer questions specific to OCHAR operations, continuing education, membership, events, dispute resolution, and other matters pertaining to the Association.

Why am I not getting OCHAR emails?
  • There are several reasons why you may not be receiving emails from OCHAR:
    • You unsubscribed after receiving an email.
    • Your firewall is identifying our domain name as spam.
    • We are not on your safe senders list.

Billing

When are TMLS fees due?
When do you bill for local/ state and national dues?

Local/State/National Dues are assessed in October of each year. A late fee of $75.00 is charged if you do not pay by the payment deadline.

How do I pay my OCHAR membership dues?
  • Online: Logging onto the OCHAR Info Hub by visiting Orangechathamrealtors.com and clicking on the “Member Login” button on the homepage or using the Info Hub app on your phone (preferred method!)
  • Auto Deduct: OCHAR will charge your bank account/credit card on the day you are invoiced (NOT the 15th)

What types of payments does OCHAR accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and check (made payable to OCHAR)

How do I set up auto-pay/ draft or store my credit card information?

You may do so by logging into the OCHAR INFO HUB and updating your billing information (credit card or bank routing number)

Can I pay dues/ fees in advance?

Does OCHAR offer pre/ post licensing classes?

YES! OCHAR now offers Pre/Postlicensing classes through our partnership with THE CE SHOP

What are the Continuing Education requirements for North Carolina?

You are required to take one 4-hour Update course (BICUP/GENUP) and one 4-hour Elective course.

Where can I see what Continuing Education courses I have taken?

How do I register and pay for an OCHAR sponsored CE class?
  • There are multiple ways to register and pay for a CE course with OBAR.

What is the current Code of Ethics cycle and why isn’t it a NC REALTORS® requirement?
  • The current Code of Ethics cycle is January 1, 2019-December 31, 2021. This is a National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) requirement.
  • REALTORS® are held to a higher standard when they join the NAR because they agree to abide by NAR’s Code of Ethics.
  • While you may take a 4-hour course that may be used towards elective credit towards your current CE cycle within your state, there are other options to satisfy this requirement. This may include a 2.5-hour course with NAR, OCHAR CE Online, or other NCREC approved education provider.

How do I check to see if I have completed my Code of Ethics Requirement for the current cycle?
  • You must login to the National Association of REALTORS® website - MY ACCOUNT
I took my Code of Ethics course with a school or Association OTHER than OCHAR. How do I submit it?
